International Exchange and Business Training Program (IEBT) at ICLS is designed to promote professional, cultural, language and business training exchanges for international professionals and graduate students. The IEBT offers several training options based on the language, cultural and professional experiences of individuals interested in on-the-job (OTJ) and internship training in the United States. The Intensive English and Business English Language Programs aim at improving pronunciation, listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing. Follow-up OTJ training or internship offers trainees from 3 to 18 months in a J-1 exchange program. Participants master business and professional skills, gain knowledge of American business culture, and experience working as a trainee in a U.S. company or organization.

OPTION ONE – One Month Advanced Business English, Followed By On-The-Job Training

This option offers a series of business seminars for qualified participants with Advanced English Language Proficiency to increase professional language fluency and to introduce them to American business culture. Upon completion of this training, participants join their assigned American host organizations and companies for 35-40 hours a week to continue their program through the on-the-job training portion. For participants with at least two years of professional work experience or a 4-year academic degree.

OPTION TWO - Intensive English and Business English Language Program, followed by On-The-Job Training

As a part of international exchange training, this option offers participants an opportunity to increase fluency in a business setting. The 40-hour Business and Professional English Program is designed to complement the morning Intensive English Program (IEP) with an emphasis on speaking and listening skills in order to help trainees assimilate in an English speaking business and working environment. The goal is to introduce participants to American busines culture, and provide opportunities to reinforce the language skills learned in the Intensive English Program in a business context. Particular emphasis is placed on business calls, taking messages, participating in business meetings, interviews, networking, internship programs, and volunteer work. The program also allows participants to engage in business-related activities that enable them to understand cultural differences, the use of business idioms, and the rhythm of an American office and business environment. A survey of best practices and the opportunity to practice business role plays exposes participants to a variety of management styles and co-worker behavior. Applicants will be given a placement test to determine their English proficiency.  HIGH INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED ENGLISH PROFICIENCY IS REQUIRED.

OPTION THREE - Immediate On-The-Job Training with a U.S. Company or Organization

This option is for those who have strong language skills, clear professional goals and a basic knowledge of U.S. culture and lifestyle. Only language-qualified candidates will be selected for the immediate on-the-job or internship training in compliance with the J-1 exchange training program requirements. The J-1 visa exchange program orientation, at least two years of work experience or a 4-year academic degree in the occupational field and ADVANCED ENGLISH PROFICIENCY ARE REQUIRED.

OPTION FOUR–Intensive English Program (IEP) at ICLS on an F-1 visa, Followed by On-The-Job Training on a J-1 visa

This option is for participants whose long term goal is to participate in the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program in order to experience language, cultural, business, and professional training exchanges through internship or on-the-job training with an American company or organization.

ICLS offers a 6-month Intensive English Program (IEP) to improve English language proficiency. The Intensive English Program is a series of 4-week sessions, from beginning to advanced, meeting from 9:00 a.m. to 12:50 p.m., Monday through Friday. Emphasis is placed on speaking, listening comprehension, reading, writing and pronunciation. Incoming students are given a placement test to determine their entry level. International participants must enroll in the Intensive English Program (IEP) as a full time student on an F-1 visa. ICLS provides the 1-20 form to apply for an F-1 visa.

Upon completion of the 6-month IEP program, ICLS will assess a student’s English proficiency to determine eligibility for the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program. The IEBT Program staff will assist qualified students in identifying training objectives, preparing for placement interviews, and completing the J-1 application program requirements. The visa application package will be completed prior to departure from the United States. A minimum of 30 days between programs before obtaining a J-1 visa. IEBT participants will receive a J-1 Visa Program Orientation upon their return to ICLS in compliance with the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program requirements. RECOMMENDED FOR BEGINNERS AND INDIVIDUALS WITH LOW INTERMEDIATE ENGLISH.

Training Break for F-1 Students/Returning to Home Country. In order to enroll in a J-1 exchange-training program, F-1 students must return to their home countries to obtain a J-1 Visa. Applicants are required to have a visa interview at the U.S. Embassy in their home country.

All Applicants should meet the requirements of the J-1 visa Exchange Visitor Program Application to qualify for the IEBT program.  ICLS will not review applications without payment of application fees. ICLS reserves the right to cancel a class due to lack of enrollment. In the case of lack of enrollment, the tuition fee will be refunded.
